Gravel Bike Surge Expands Small-Frame Models and New Tours in Germany

Manufacturers are increasingly producing very small gravel‑bike frames—sizes 48, 50 and even XXS—to meet rising demand from women and riders of shorter stature. Historically, small riders had to compromise on comfort and safety, but the growing presence of women in competitive and recreational cycling has turned tiny frames into a near‑standard offering, especially in the gravel segment.

In the German Alpine foreland, the Chiemgau region has added ten new gravel‑bike routes to its 1,400‑kilometre network. The tours, such as the 45‑km “Lake ’n Lazy”, the 79‑km “Lake Loop”, and the scenic “Holy Roler”, blend asphalt, gravel and forest paths, and feature numerous stops at cafés and cultural sites, encouraging both novice and experienced riders to explore the area.

Together, the expansion of small‑frame options and the development of dedicated gravel routes illustrate the broader boom in gravel cycling and its impact on bike manufacturers and regional tourism.
