Gravel cycling market expands via gear and tourism
Overview
Since late June 2026, the gravel cycling market has seen rapid expansion in specialized equipment and dedicated tourism infrastructure. Manufacturers have introduced high-performance models, such as Giant’s Revolt Advanced SL, which utilizes a “Total Speed System” for aerodynamic efficiency, and Bike Ahead’s limited-edition Superfast Edition 15, a €15,000 hand-built carbon bike. Look’s G85 Cezal has also been noted for its versatility and stability.
Equipment trends show a move toward wider components and specialized sizing. Schwalbe has expanded its tire range to include 60mm widths for increased traction, while BH introduced its 2027 GravelX collection and an iGravelX NX e-gravel series featuring Bosch motors. To address rider diversity, manufacturers are increasingly offering very small frames (sizes 48, 50, and XXS) for women and shorter cyclists. Footwear has also evolved, with the Giant Charge 1 and Shimano’s RX710 offering specialized stiffness and comfort.
Regional tourism is growing alongside these technical advances. In Austria, the “Gravel Carinthia” network and the Tannheimertal region in Tyrol have emerged as key hubs. Germany has also expanded its offerings, with the Chiemgau region adding ten new routes and the Black Forest’s Eisenbach providing logistical support for riders. Recent testing by IMTEST identified the Liv Devote Advanced 1 M as a top performer for women’s anatomy, while the Stevens Prestige Generation 2 was noted for its value.
