Gárdonyi family musical works to be celebrated at Liszt Ferenc Academy

A jubilee concert celebrating the works of Zoltán Gárdonyi and his son, Zsolt Gárdonyi, will take place at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music on October 17. The event serves as the climax of a three-day program in Budapest featuring masterclasses, conferences, and publication launches.

The program honors significant milestones: the 120th anniversary of Zoltán Gárdonyi's birth and the 40th anniversary of his passing, alongside Zsolt Gárdonyi's 80th birthday. Zoltán Gárdonyi, a composer who studied under Zoltán Kodály and Paul Hindemith, is noted for blending Hungarian and Protestant musical traditions with Bach-inspired polyphony. His son, Zsolt Gárdonyi, based in Germany, incorporates modern thinking and jazz harmonies into church music traditions.

The gala will feature various chamber pieces, choral works, and organ compositions performed by prominent Hungarian organists, choirs, and chamber musicians.
