Zoltán Gárdonyi anniversary commemorations

Overview

Events are being organized to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the birth of composer Zoltán Gárdonyi.

In Budapest, the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music is hosting a jubilee concert on October 17 as part of a three-day program. This program includes masterclasses, conferences, and publication launches to honor both Zoltán Gárdonyi and his son, Zsolt Gárdonyi. The celebrations highlight Zoltán Gárdonyi’s legacy of blending Hungarian and Protestant musical traditions with Bach-inspired polyphony.

Additionally, a scientific and artistic conference is scheduled for October 20–21 in Cluj-Napoca. Organized by the Transylvanian Reformed Church District at Babeș-Bolyai University, the event focuses on Gárdonyi’s compositions, musicological studies, and pedagogical works. The conference will feature scientific sessions, musical devotions, organ masterclasses, and choral conducting training involving experts from several Hungarian institutions.
