Great Wall Motor to resume vehicle production in Bulgaria

Great Wall Motor (GWM) has announced the resumption of serial automobile production in Bulgaria, scheduled to begin in January 2027. The manufacturing will take place at the Bahovitsa Industrial Park near Lovech.

The initial production phase will focus on the fully electric GWM Ora 5 crossover, with a planned volume of 10,000 units for the first year. Unlike previous assembly operations that relied on knock-down kits, the new process will involve importing individual components, which is expected to improve logistics and customs conditions.

Anton Donchev, Director of International Business at Bulgarian Automotive Industry, noted that this move represents a transition from merely selling vehicles in the country to direct production of electric vehicles. The facility has a design capacity of up to 50,000 vehicles annually and is capable of producing up to seven different models simultaneously. Future plans include the integration of additional models and the potential establishment of auxiliary parts factories within Bulgaria.
