Greater Anglia services disrupted after person hit by train

A person died after being struck by a train on a Greater Anglia line near Ely on September 11. British Transport Police and paramedics attended the scene, where the individual was pronounced dead.

The incident caused significant disruption to rail services between Cambridge North and Thetford/March, including the Norwich to Stansted Airport route. Other affected lines include Ipswich to Peterborough via Ely, impacting services operated by Great Northern, CrossCountry, and East Midlands Railway.

Replacement buses were implemented between Thetford and Cambridge North, with journey times estimated at approximately two hours. Authorities and rail operators are working to reopen the line, though an exact time for resumption was not immediately available at the time of reporting.
