UK rail service disruptions from train incidents

Overview

Rail services in the Essex and East Anglia regions have experienced significant disruptions following incidents involving persons being struck by trains.

On September 8, services between London Liverpool Street and destinations such as Stansted Airport, Cambridge North, and Hertford East were blocked due to an incident between Tottenham Hale and Cheshunt. Greater Anglia reported that lines were blocked, leading to cancellations and diversions.

On September 11, a separate incident occurred near Ely, where a person was struck by a train and pronounced dead. This incident caused further disruption to routes between Cambridge North and Thetford or March, as well as the Norwich to Stansted Airport line. Impacted services also included those operated by Great Northern, CrossCountry, and East Midlands Railway. Replacement buses were deployed between Thetford and Cambridge North to mitigate delays.
