Greece addresses vehicle license plate shortage and rising fuel costs

Greece is addressing two significant logistical and economic pressures for motorists. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has secured approval from EADISY for the direct award of a contract to manufacture 60,000 license plates for cars and trucks, as well as 25,000 plates for motorcycles. This move aims to resolve a long-standing shortage that has delayed vehicle deliveries for both new and imported used vehicles.

Simultaneously, drivers are facing rising costs at the pump. The average national price for unleaded gasoline rose to 2.17 euros per liter as of September 16, an increase of approximately 6 cents in a single week. In some regions, prices have exceeded 2.30 euros per liter. Diesel prices have also risen above 2 euros per liter. These domestic increases are linked to international trends, including Brent crude oil surpassing 105 dollars per barrel.
