Greece adds 250 ambulances to EKAB fleet

Deputy Health Minister Marios Themistokleous said the National Emergency Care Agency (EKAB) is not experiencing a reduction in ambulances; instead the operational fleet has been expanded. He announced that 250 new ambulances will be delivered over the next twelve months, part of a renewal program funded by state money and donations.

The minister also highlighted a recruitment drive for 1,131 permanent doctors, with more than 2,000 applications received after the deadline was extended by a week. He said the application process will be completed next week and placements are expected within six months. A hiring platform for nurses has opened in Athens and will be rolled out nationwide, with the greatest staffing needs identified in the capital. In several regional hospitals, nurse‑to‑bed ratios have now reached the European average.
