Greek 2026 hiring – public sector expansion
Overview
The hiring surge continued through late July and early August. ASEP announced more than 11,000 permanent posts for the 2026 recruitment cycle, including the 5K/2026 (51 posts), 6K/2026 (315 posts) and 7K/2026 calls (3,265 secondary‑education positions). The 7K/2026 call, aimed at primary and lower‑secondary school graduates, opened on 29 July with a deadline of 5 August 14:00 and does not require a university degree. In parallel, ASEP released a separate quota of 1,866 permanent positions for persons with disabilities covering all teaching categories, and plans further secondary‑education calls and specialist scientific‑staff competitions later in the year.
Other public‑sector recruiters joined the effort. The Athens Metro operator STASY opened 21 permanent metro jobs, while the Directorate of Vocational Training began accepting applications for 30 vocational schools offering 46 specialties. The Greek Fire Service Academy posted twelve eight‑month contracts for kitchen and catering staff. The Ministry of Interior also launched 1,779 school‑cleaner positions in 328 municipalities, part of a programme that will ultimately employ 16,021 cleaners for the 2026‑2027 school year.
Overall, the 2026 hiring drive now encompasses over 5,000 new permanent posts across education, health, transport, vocational training, fire services and school maintenance, reflecting a broad push to replace fixed‑term contracts with stable employment.
