Greece allocates €13.8 million for healthcare energy upgrades

The Greek Ministry of National Economy and Finance has secured €13,869,238 in funding from the ESPA ‘Environment and Climate Change 2021-2027’ program for the energy upgrading of healthcare facilities.

In Karditsa, the General Hospital and the Center for Physical and Medical Rehabilitation will undergo extensive renovations. Improvements include installing thermal insulation, energy-efficient window frames, new heating and cooling systems, and LED lighting. Additionally, elevators will be replaced with Class A energy-efficient models, and a photovoltaic system will be installed. The project also includes replacing medical equipment—such as surgical lights and endoscopy towers—with low-consumption, low-radiation technology. These interventions aim to upgrade the hospital's energy rating from E to B and the rehabilitation center from C to B, with a total public expenditure of €5,300,566.36.

At the University General Hospital of Alexandroupoli, covering 75,634 square meters, the upgrades will feature an advanced Building Management System (BMS), 8,562 LED lamps, 15,000 square meters of wall insulation, and new energy-efficient window frames. The project also includes the installation of a 2MWp photovoltaic system.
