Greece updates A21 child allowance and housing subsidy programs

Greece is implementing updates to several social welfare and housing programs.

The A21 child allowance platform has reopened as of October 5, 2026, allowing citizens to submit new applications or modify existing ones for the year. The deadline for these actions is November 13, 2026. Additionally, OPEKA has scheduled an emergency supplementary payment for October 9, 2026. This payment addresses applications that were not processed during the previous cycle due to a technical issue with IDYKA SA regarding the availability of student enrollment data for the new school year.

Regarding housing, the ‘Anakainizo’ (Renovate) program is moving into its implementation phase. Following approximately 94,000 applications, beneficiaries will be invited in October to submit supporting documents and declare planned expenses. Once finalized, a 50% advance payment of the approved subsidy will be activated. Subsidies under this ESPA 2021-2027 initiative can reach up to 36,000 euros per residence, covering between 70% and 95% of eligible costs. Minister Domna Michailidou also noted the upcoming ‘Spiti mou 3’ program, which aims to assist approximately 20,000 more citizens in home ownership.
