Greece and Germany strengthen defense ties during Crete meeting

Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias met with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in Crete to discuss strengthening bilateral military relations within the frameworks of NATO and the European Union.

The ministers discussed defense industry cooperation, including potential joint production, cyber defense, and unmanned systems. They also addressed broader European security challenges, including threats from Russia, the Middle East, and North Africa. Both nations are currently undergoing military restructuring, with Greece implementing its ‘Agenda 2030’ and Germany pursuing an ambitious equipment program.

During the visit, the ministers observed live-fire exercises as part of the annual ‘SPARTAN ARROW – 26’ air defense exercise at the NATO Missile Firing Installation (NAMFI). The demonstrations included PATRIOT and LEFLASYS-OZELOT systems, as well as the certification of the new IRIS-T SLM air defense system.
