Greece and Israel have signed a monumental defense agreement, valued at approximately 3.035 billion euros, to establish a multi-layered air defense, anti-ballistic, and anti-drone system known as 'Achilles Shield'. The agreement, signed in Tel Aviv on August 31, 2026, marks one of the largest defense exports in Israel's history and a significant milestone in the Eastern Mediterranean alliance between Greece, Israel, and Cyprus.

The Achilles Shield will integrate several advanced Israeli technologies, including David’s Sling, SPYDER, and the BARAK MX system, alongside multi-mission MMR radars and a national command and control system. This comprehensive architecture is designed to protect against a wide spectrum of threats, including ballistic missiles, aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

As part of the deal, 19 Greek companies are expected to participate, with a contribution exceeding 750 million euros. The agreement also includes provisions for technology transfer to bolster the Greek defense industry and the creation of a production base within Greece for potential future exports. A separate 26 million euro agreement was also signed for the sale of Rafael's Drone Dome systems to protect strategic facilities.
