Greece and Italy plan 2027 tenders for GRITA 2 interconnection

The Greek Independent Power Transmission Operator (ADMIE) and Italy's Terna are accelerating the GRITA 2 electrical interconnection project. Ioannis Margaris, Vice President and General Manager of Technology, System Development, and Strategy at ADMIE, announced at the 8th Renewable & Storage Forum that international tenders for cable systems and converter stations are targeted for summer 2027.

Seabed surveys are scheduled to begin early next year, while licensing processes and technical specifications are currently under preparation. The project is expected to enter the construction phase within 2028.

Margaris also noted that ADMIE is focusing on smart technologies to increase the capacity of existing infrastructure to navigate environmental and licensing constraints. Additionally, the operator is implementing a program to replace critical equipment across Greece to enhance network resilience and capacity.
