Greece and Italy sign deal for two FREMM frigates
Greece has reached an agreement with Italy to acquire two second-hand FREMM frigates currently in service with the Italian Navy. The signing ceremony took place in Rome, attended by Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto and Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias.
Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri is expected to support the acquisition process and provide lifecycle support for the vessels. Fincantieri CEO Pierroberto Folgiero noted that the transfer represents a step toward broader integration of industrial capabilities and expertise between the two nations. Market sources suggest the operation could be worth approximately 2 to 3 billion euros for Fincantieri, potentially including logistical support and the construction of new vessels for the Italian Navy.
