Greece and Spain sign tourism cooperation memorandum

Greece and Spain have signed a Tourism Cooperation Memorandum to establish a strategic framework for sustainability, innovation, and digital transformation. Signed in Madrid by Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni and Spanish Minister Jordi Hereu, the agreement facilitates the exchange of expertise, tourism promotion, investment, and professional training. A joint committee will be created to oversee progress and coordinate efforts within international organizations like the UN World Tourism Organization.

In a related regional effort, the ‘Tourism Cares: Unite for Cleaner Destinations’ environmental initiative is expanding from Cyprus to Greece. The campaign aims to organize cross-border clean-up activities involving tourism businesses, diving centers, and volunteers to tackle waste in beaches, coastlines, and seabeds. The initiative, which is included in the UN Tourism programme for World Tourism Day 2026, focuses on reducing single-use plastics and promoting responsible behavior among visitors and workers to ensure long-term environmental sustainability in the Mediterranean.
