Greece to launch resettlement program for remote regions
Greece is set to launch an application platform in October for its resettlement program, aimed at encouraging families and individuals to move to remote and border regions. According to Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Domna Michailidou, the initiative provides financial incentives of up to €10,000 to support the relocation of people and families to these areas.
The program, which began in the Evros region, is being expanded to include new locations such as seven municipalities in the Ioannina regional unit and the municipalities of Souli and Filiates in Thesprotia. In specific areas like Kastellorizo, public and private sector employees can receive an annual incentive of €5,000, with an additional €1,000 for each child.
Beyond direct financial aid, the government intends to support these regions through improved infrastructure and services, including new schools and nurseries, and targeted incentives for critical professions such as doctors. The policy also aims to encourage Greek citizens living abroad to return to the country.
