Greek welfare 2026 – vouchers, pensions, childcare, training
Overview
The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) completed the €150‑per‑child emergency payment in early 2026, reaching 947,609 families. A series of welfare voucher schemes followed: the “Tourism for All” digital travel voucher (€200‑€600) opened for applications in August, a disability‑focused smartphone voucher of up to €70 started in November, and a food‑voucher programme for Minimum Guaranteed Income recipients began in September, providing €46 per month on prepaid cards. The Market Pass 2026 food‑voucher scheme, budgeted at €400 million, opened its portal in late September/early October, with the first credits issued at the end of October and retroactive payments covering up to 30 months. Basic monthly amounts start at €40 and rise with household size; vouchers are limited to food and essential items in supermarkets. EFKA published the pension‑payment calendar for July and August 2026, detailing dates for both non‑salaried and salaried main pensions. The government raised the unseizable‑deposit limit from €1,250 to €1,600 per month, protecting wages, pensions, rent and other income for more than 1.5 million debtors, who can lift existing seizures by paying 25 % of the outstanding debt via the AADE platform. In July, the Public Employment Service extended the online deadline for free childcare places to 13 July. The Greek Organisation for Social Welfare Benefits (OPEKA) closed the third round of A21 child‑benefit applications, receiving 601,295 submissions, approving 497,753 (covering 856,159 children) and rejecting 99,523. The electronic platform will reopen on 31 July for new or modified requests. The “Tourism for All” programme was relaunched for 2026‑27 with expanded income thresholds, removal of limits for high‑disability ratings, and an extra €50 per child from the fourth child onward. A lottery allocates vouchers, favouring off‑season trips, with 70 % of the budget earmarked for travel between October and April.
