Adrianos Golemis to become first Greek astronaut on 2027 space mission
At the International Space Summit in Paris, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and French President Emmanuel Macron announced that Adrianos Golemis will become the first Greek astronaut to travel to space. Golemis, an ESA flight surgeon, will serve as a mission specialist on the PAM-6 mission to the International Space Station (ISS).
The mission is a collaboration between the private company Vast, the European Space Agency (ESA), and NASA. The flight is scheduled for the second half of 2027 and will utilize a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and a Dragon spacecraft. The proposed crew includes Thomas Pesquet of France as commander, Aleš Svoboda of the Czech Republic as pilot, and Golemis.
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman congratulated Greece, noting its role as a partner in the Artemis Accords and its contribution to the sustainable low Earth orbit economy. Mitsotakis highlighted Greece's rapid progress in the space sector, noting the country now has 18 satellites in orbit and is developing a domestic satellite manufacturing ecosystem.
