Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has officially announced the selection of Adrianos Golemis as the first Greek astronaut to participate in a crewed space mission. The announcement was made during the International Space Summit in Paris, where Golemis was presented alongside French President Emmanuel Macron.

Golemis, an ESA flight surgeon, will serve as a mission specialist for the PAM-6 mission to the International Space Station (ISS). The mission is a private endeavor by the company Vast, conducted in collaboration with NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA). The flight is scheduled to depart in the second half of 2027. The crew is expected to include French astronaut Thomas Pesquet as commander and Czech astronaut Aleš Svoboda as pilot.

The mission will involve scientific and technological activities, including experiments from Greek universities and companies. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman congratulated Greece, noting that as an Artemis Accords partner, Greece is contributing to a sustainable low Earth orbit economy. The mission will utilize SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft for transport.
