Greece announces regional veterinary spraying and vaccination programs
The Greek Directorate of Rural Economy and Veterinary Medicine in Messinia has scheduled bait spraying for October 29, 2026. The program targets local communities including Ag. Florou, Neochori Ithomis, and Strefi, among others, to manage agricultural pests. Olive growers are advised to ensure access to groves and clear obstacles, while beekeepers must protect their hives. Spraying will not occur in areas where animals are present.
Separately, the Veterinary Department of the Imathia Regional Unit has announced an aerial rabies vaccination campaign running from October 28 to November 6, 2026. Using aircraft from Edessa airport, the program will distribute vaccine baits to immunize wildlife across various areas in Imathia, such as Naousa and Polyplatanos.
The rabies baits are described as small, oil-brown cubes with a fishy odor containing a weakened live virus. Authorities warn citizens not to touch or step on these baits if found in rural or forested areas and advise immediate medical attention if contact occurs.
