Greece announces remote work subsidies for remote regions

Greece's Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Niki Kerameus, has announced a new employment initiative aimed at promoting decentralization and supporting residents in mountainous and remote regions. The program focuses on remote work, offering companies a 90% subsidy for both salaries and social security contributions for a period of 12 months when hiring individuals from these areas.

Additionally, the Public Employment Service (DYPA) is planning various employment programs through the end of 2026. These include creating 1,000 jobs for unemployed persons with disabilities in local government organizations and targeted actions for women, individuals over 50, and those aged 30+. Some programs involve an 80% subsidy of payroll costs for a duration of 12 months.

Separately, the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) has called for the immediate withdrawal of a proposed regulation within the new Alternative Dispute Resolution Code. The GSEE argues that the provision, which extends mandatory pre-judicial mediation to labor disputes, imposes unfair financial burdens on employees by requiring them to cover mediator and legal costs.
