Greece announces wildfire compensation plan for Attica and Boeotia

The Greek government has announced a compensation and recovery plan for those affected by recent wildfires in Western Attica and Boeotia. Starting Monday, August 10, victims can submit applications at local municipalities for immediate needs allowances and household goods compensation.

Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Kostas Katsafados, stated that the state aid for the repair or reconstruction of homes has been increased to cover 100% of estimated damages for both primary and secondary residences. Additionally, the state will now fully cover the costs of demolishing buildings classified as "red" (unsafe for use).

In Porto Germeno, inspections identified 79 "red" houses, 56 "yellow" houses (temporarily unsuitable), and 57 "green" houses. Financial support includes an immediate needs allowance of up to €600, household goods compensation up to €6,000 for primary residences, and rental subsidies between €300 and €500 for those unable to return to their homes.

Following the disaster relief, the government plans to begin anti-erosion and anti-flood works by mid-September to protect the burned areas from autumn rains.
