Greece appoints 600 new firefighters, adding 45 in the Ionian Islands and 55 in Thessaly

The Greek Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection announced the allocation of 600 new General‑Duty firefighters across the country. In the Ionian Islands region, 45 new positions will be filled: Corfu (10), Paxos (5), Kefalonia (10), Ithaca (5), Zakynthos (10) and Lefkada (5). In Thessaly, 55 positions are assigned: Larissa (15), Magnesia (10), Skia (10), Skopelos (5), Alonnisos (5), Karditsa (5) and Trikala (5).

Minister Evangelos Tournas said, “Με την κατανομή των 600 νέων Πυροσβεστών Γενικών Καθηκόντων Επί Θητεία ενισχύουμε ουσιαστικά το Πυροσβεστικό Σώμα σε κάθε γωνιά της Ελλάδας,” emphasizing the goal of strengthening fire protection in response to climate‑related challenges.
