Greece approves up to €500 monthly subsidy for disaster‑hit households

The Greek Ministry of Climate Crisis issued a joint ministerial decision (protocol 67959/DAEFK‑KE/A36, 30 Oct 2025) establishing a temporary‑housing subsidy for people whose main residence was damaged by a natural disaster. The aid can be provided as a rent subsidy for those who rent alternative accommodation in the same or a neighbouring regional unit, or as a co‑habitation subsidy when staying with another household, the latter amount being 50 % of the rent subsidy.

The subsidy is calculated at €300 per month for a single‑person household and increases by €50 for each additional resident, up to a maximum of €500 per month. Eligibility requires that the damaged home be classified by the General Directorate of Civil Protection (GDAEFK) as “Yellow” (temporarily unsuitable) or “Red” (dangerous), that the applicant have no vacant or secondary dwelling within 25 km, and that they can prove residence before the disaster and inability to live there after. The support starts the day after the disaster and is paid quarterly. Persons with a disability rating of at least 67 % are counted as an extra resident for the purpose of reaching the €500 ceiling.
