Greece: Authorities investigate separate fraud cases in Kozani and Boeotia
Authorities in Greece are investigating two separate fraud incidents targeting individuals through deceptive communication methods.
In Kozani, a 59-year-old man lost 5,000 euros following a two-month period of fraudulent investment discussions via Viber. Police traced the funds to a bank account belonging to a 47-year-old, who is now facing fraud charges.
In Askra, Boeotia, an elderly man was defrauded of 30,000 euros in a sophisticated telephone scam. Using the ‘accountant method,’ scammers convinced the victim that his money was at risk from a ‘tax office satellite.’ After keeping him on the phone for two and a half hours, the perpetrators instructed him to leave the cash outside his home on a fence, where a member of the group subsequently retrieved it.
