Greece contains 25 wildfires in a day, Aspropyrgos blaze partly controlled

Over the past 24 hours the Greek Fire Service reported a surge of agro‑forest fires across the country, with official counts ranging from 23 to 25 incidents. Firefighters extinguished the majority at the initial stage – 21‑22 fires were dealt with promptly while 2‑3 remained active.

The most significant blaze erupted around 20:30 on Tuesday near Aspropyrgos in western Attica, affecting low‑vegetation areas close to homes and infrastructure. Crews deployed 22 firefighters, eight fire engines and one helicopter; water tankers from the Municipality of Aspropyrgos also assisted. The fire was limited and brought under partial control within about 20 minutes. The West Attica Arson Crimes Investigation Unit opened a criminal investigation, and the Operations Coordination Centre monitored the incident with drones equipped with thermal and optical cameras. The area remains classified as a Category 3 (high) wildfire risk.
