Greece considers updates to ‘Spiti Mou III’ housing program
The Greek government is evaluating two major changes to the upcoming ‘Spiti Mou III’ housing program to expand eligibility and increase the number of available properties. The proposed updates, which await approval from the European Commission, aim to address difficulties faced by previous participants regarding property availability and loan approvals.
One proposal involves allowing the purchase of newer properties with building permits issued as late as 2012 or 2015, a significant increase from the 2007 limit applied to the previous program. The second proposal would allow the use of guarantors for mortgage loans, specifically to assist young couples and lower-income families.
Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Domna Michailidou stated that the new program will feature expanded age and income limits, higher loan amounts, and more housing options, with the goal of helping approximately 20,000 additional citizens acquire their own homes.
