Greece gasoline prices climb above €2 per litre

The average price of unleaded gasoline in Greece has risen to just over €1.97 per litre and in several prefectures—Aetolia‑Acarnania, Grevena, Dodecanese, Evrytania, Zakynthos, Crete, Corfu, Kefalonia, Lesbos, Lemnos, Magnesia, Rhythymno, Samos and Fokida—has already exceeded €2. The Cyclades region records the highest level at €2.20 per litre.

A voluntary discount agreed between the government and the two major refiners, Helleniq Energy and Motor Oil, costs each about €20 million through the end of August. However, the surge in international crude oil prices and higher Platts Mediterranean reference rates have largely neutralised the benefit for consumers. Prices at the refineries rose on 15‑16 July: Helleniq Energy’s 95‑octane went from €1.390235 to €1.404097 per litre, while Motor Oil’s price moved from €1.387367 to €1.401412.

The average national price fell marginally from €1.979 per litre on 13 July to €1.975 on 15 July, while diesel rose from €1.854 to €1.873 per litre. Market analysts warn that if the upward trend continues, the average gasoline price could again pass the €2 threshold, adding further cost pressure to millions of drivers. Internationally, Brent crude rose over 20 % to about $88 per barrel, and European natural‑gas futures (TTF) reached €57 /MWh, underscoring broader energy‑price pressures.
