Greece: Dietitian Association files 11 lawsuits against illegal practitioners
The Association of Dietitians-Nutritionists of Greece (S.D.D.E.) has filed 11 lawsuits following reports of the illegal practice of the profession. Out of 62 complaints submitted via the Association's platform, 36 have been reviewed so far.
Under Law 5194/2025, the Association operates as a public law legal entity under the supervision of the Ministry of Health. Registration in the Association's official Registry is now a mandatory prerequisite for practicing as a dietitian or nutritionist. This registry includes individuals with degrees from Greek universities or recognized foreign institutions.
Violators facing charges for practicing without proper qualifications or registration may face one year of imprisonment and fines of up to 15,000 euros. Association President Vasilis Tsironis highlighted the risks of unqualified individuals providing nutritional advice, particularly to patients with serious health issues.
