Greece: e-EFKA introduces electronic pension applications and payment schedules

The Greek social security agency, e-EFKA, is implementing a new digital process for public sector employees to submit retirement applications. Starting November 2, 2026, applications for retirement due to old age—including main, supplementary, and lump-sum benefits—can be submitted electronically via the e-EFKA platform. On November 9, 2026, the system will expand to include applications for benefits due to the death of an insured person. This transition aims to reduce bureaucracy by replacing the previous handwritten process.

Regarding upcoming disbursements, e-EFKA and the Public Employment Service (DYPA) have scheduled payments totaling approximately 2.53 billion euros between October 26 and October 30, 2026. These funds will be distributed to over 4.3 million beneficiaries, covering November pensions, unemployment benefits, maternity leave, and funeral expenses.

Additionally, an annual financial aid of 400 euros is expected to be paid to approximately 2.3 million pensioners and vulnerable groups by the end of November. To qualify for this aid, pensioners must have reached the age of 65 by December 31, 2025. Furthermore, a significant claim involving 150,000 former pensioners remains active, regarding potential pension increases and retroactive payments for those who had parallel insurance in multiple funds prior to May 2016.
