Greece: Elderly women targeted in telephone scams

Elderly women in Greece have fallen victim to sophisticated telephone scams involving the theft of cash and jewelry.

In Patra, an elderly woman was deceived by an unknown caller who convinced her to place approximately 11,000 euros worth of money and gold jewelry in a bag and leave it outside her home.

In a similar incident in Nafpaktos, a woman was targeted by a scammer posing as an employee of the electricity provider, DEDDIE. The perpetrator claimed there was an issue with the electrical current and instructed the woman to place 5,000 euros in cash and 5,000 euros worth of jewelry in a bag to protect them from potential electrical damage. The victim followed the instructions and left the bag outside, after which an unknown individual retrieved it. Police are currently investigating both cases.
