Greece emphasizes regional security and maritime cooperation roles

Greek officials have emphasized the nation's growing role as a security provider in the Mediterranean and beyond. During the ADRION (Adriatic and Ionian Initiative) Defense Ministers' summit in Venice, Defense Minister Nikos Dendias discussed strengthening regional stability and operational cooperation. Dendias also held bilateral talks with Italian counterpart Guido Crosetto regarding the potential transfer of two used Italian anti-narcotics vessels to Greece.

Separately, Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis met with US official Marco Rubio in Athens to launch the 6th round of the Greece-US Strategic Dialogue. Gerapetritis expressed Greece's readiness to provide maritime assistance in the Strait of Hormuz if necessary, provided conditions allow and a sustainable peace process is in place. He noted that Greek operations in the Red Sea, Mediterranean, and Indian Ocean complement US initiatives, highlighting Greece's capacity to export security due to its geopolitical position and advanced defense systems.
