Greece emphasizes Vertical Corridor for European energy security

Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou has highlighted the strategic importance of the Vertical Corridor for European energy security and the necessity of strengthening national energy autonomy. Speaking in an interview, the Minister noted that the project is of national importance and European scale, aimed at helping Central and Southeast European countries reduce dependence on Russian natural gas.

Papastavrou also addressed the strengthening of Greek-American relations, citing the recent visit of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio as evidence of historically high bilateral ties. He identified defense cooperation and energy as the two primary pillars of this relationship, noting that the presence of American energy companies ExxonMobil and Chevron in Greece serves as a vote of confidence in the country. Additionally, the Minister acknowledged the ongoing energy crisis and the resulting pressures on households and businesses, calling for coordinated European initiatives to provide support.
