Greece: Essential updates required after new ID card issuance

Following the issuance of new Greek identity cards, citizens are advised to update their personal information across various essential services to avoid transaction issues. While old blue police IDs remain valid for domestic use within Greece, a European regulation effective August 3, 2026, means they will no longer be recognized as valid travel documents, even within the Schengen Area.

To ensure seamless operations, individuals should update their details with banks, insurance companies, mobile and internet providers, and utility companies such as PPC (DEI) and EYDAP. Additionally, employers and digital payment applications like Revolut or Viva Wallet require updated identification. Upon issuance, the Hellenic Police record the new data in the National Citizen Registry via the General Secretariat of Information Systems of Digital Governance.
