Greece establishes national digital blood donation system

Greece's Ministry of Health has signed ministerial decisions to establish a Central Blood Donation Information System and a National Blood Donor Registry. This initiative aims to create a unified, centrally coordinated digital blood donation system at a national level.

The project follows the completion of an upgrade to the information systems of blood transfusion services across 96 hospitals in Greece, a project implemented by HDYKA S.A. and funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility.

Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis stated that the digital integration is intended to improve the interconnection of information systems, ensure more efficient management of blood stocks, and enhance the traceability and safety of transfusion procedures. The National Blood Donor Registry has already been migrated to modern HDYKA S.A. infrastructure to serve hospitals, the National Blood Center, and donors.
