Overview
The Greek Ministry of Health has initiated the establishment of a Central Blood Donation Information System and a National Blood Donor Registry. This digital integration follows an upgrade to the information systems of blood transfusion services across 96 hospitals, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility.
The system is designed to create a unified, centrally coordinated national network to improve the interconnection of information, manage blood stocks more efficiently, and enhance the traceability and safety of transfusion procedures.
Beyond managing blood and plasma derivative movement, the system will include a blood vigilance component. This feature will record serious or adverse events related to the collection, testing, processing, storage, and distribution of blood products, as well as monitor adverse reactions occurring during or after transfusions to ensure compliance with international and European safety standards.
