Greece exits EU macroeconomic imbalances list, government celebrates

The European Commission announced the removal of Greece from its list of macro‑economic imbalances, a decision welcomed by the Greek government as validation of recent fiscal reforms and an end to the crisis era. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis presented the move as proof that the country has complied with the euro‑area’s fiscal rules.

PASOK MEP Nikos Farandouris, however, cautioned that the Commission’s report also highlights serious distortions in five areas: public finance, state administration reforms, bureaucracy and business environment, energy market dysfunctions, and social services such as health, education and housing. He argued that these findings point to ongoing challenges and presented his party’s policy proposals to address them.
