Greece expands hospital hiring with 1,131 doctor slots and 317 nursing posts
The Greek Ministry of Health set a deadline of 12:00 GMT on 15 June 2026 for applications to a new recruitment drive covering 1,131 medical doctor positions across specialties such as cardiology, pathology, anaesthesiology, surgery, paediatrics, orthopaedics, radiology and pulmonology. The posts are distributed among ESY hospitals, the Regional Network of Mental Health Services, primary‑care facilities on islands funded by the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, and major hospitals in Athens including Agios Savvas, Sismanogleio, G. Genimatas, Ippokrateio, Laiko, Sotiria and the children's hospitals Agia Sophia and P. & A. Kyriakou. Emphasis is placed on strengthening emergency departments, intensive care units, oncology, haematology and paediatric care.
Separately, the Supreme Council for Civil Personnel Selection (ASEP) issued a new call (6K/2026) for 317 permanent nursing positions in hospitals and health‑care institutions that fall outside the direct supervision of the Ministry of Health. The recruitment targets military hospitals, university hospitals overseen by the Ministry of Education (e.g., Aiginiteio), and regional social‑welfare centres. Candidates will be selected through a merit‑based points system that weighs academic qualifications, postgraduate degrees, professional experience, language and IT skills, and social criteria such as local residency and family size.
