Greece expands housing subsidies through renovation and home purchase programs
Greece is advancing two major housing initiatives: the ‘Anakainizo’ renovation program and the upcoming ‘Spiti mou III’ scheme.
The ‘Anakainizo’ program is entering a new phase this October, allowing beneficiaries to submit documentation and claim a 50% advance on subsidies to begin property renovations. The program offers subsidies of up to 95% of eligible costs, with a maximum of €36,000 per residence, provided that energy efficiency upgrades are included. Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Domna Michailidou reported that approximately 94,000 certifications have already been issued, covering both primary residences and vacant properties.
Additionally, the ‘Spiti mou III’ program is expected to launch in early 2027, targeting approximately 20,000 citizens seeking their first home. This new iteration expands eligibility criteria, raising the age limit for participants to between 25 and 55 years. The program will allow for financing up to €230,000 for properties valued up to €300,000, maintaining a 90% subsidy rate. Income thresholds have also been adjusted to support families, with specific provisions for single-parent households and families with multiple children.
