Greece expands resettlement program with 10,000 euro grants
The Greek government has expanded its Demographic Development Program, offering 10,000 euros in financial assistance to households that choose to permanently relocate to specific remote regions of the country. Following a pilot implementation in Evros, the program now includes ten additional regional units: Kilkis, Florina, Kastoria, Drama, Pella, Grevena, Kozani, Serres, Ioannina, and Thesprotia.
The financial aid is provided in two equal installments of 5,000 euros, with the first payment being an advance available upon application approval to help cover moving costs. Eligibility extends to single-person or multi-person households, including Greek citizens living in other EU member states and recent university graduates from the target regions.
To maintain the assistance, participants must reside in the chosen area permanently for five years. Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Domna Michailidou noted that requirements have been made more flexible, such as removing the necessity to prove employment in the relocation area, provided the individual has or rents a residence there. The program aims to support demographic growth in regions facing population challenges.
