Greece expands resettlement program with 10,000 euro incentives

The Greek government is expanding its Resettlement Program, which offers financial incentives of up to 10,000 euros to individuals and families who choose to move permanently to regions facing severe demographic challenges.

Following a pilot phase in Evros, the program now includes seven municipalities within the Ioannina regional unit—Konitsa, Pogoni, Zagori, Metsovo, Northern Tzoumerka, Dodoni, and Zitsa—as well as the municipalities of Souli and Filiates in Thesprotia.

The financial aid will be paid in two installments of 5,000 euros: the first upon application approval and the second after one year of permanent residency. The funds are tax-free, non-seizable, and do not count toward income limits for other social benefits. A significant change to the program is that beneficiaries are no longer required to be employed in their new place of residence.

In October, an application platform is expected to open for eight additional regional units: Kastoria, Kilkis, Serres, Florina, Pella, Drama, Kozani, and Grevena.
