Attica ports see heavy traffic as summer travelers return and depart

Attica's major ports, including Piraeus, Rafina, and Lavrio, are experiencing heavy traffic during the final week of August. While a significant wave of travelers is returning from summer holidays to Athens and Thessaloniki, many others are still departing for the Greek islands, particularly the Cyclades and Saronic islands.

Recent data shows that 50,707 passengers arrived at Attica's entry gates, while 33,372 departed from its ports. On a single day, 44 vessel departures were scheduled across the three main ports: 22 from Piraeus, 14 from Rafina, and 8 from Lavrio.

Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Vasilis Kikilias, visited Piraeus to inspect measures in place for the increased passenger volume. Accompanied by the Chief of the Hellenic Coast Guard, Vice Admiral Christos Kontourouchas, Kikilias emphasized that the tourist season has not yet concluded and noted that Coast Guard personnel are on high alert to ensure smooth operations and passenger safety.
