Greece Extends Summer Sale Period to August 31 and Sets Discount Rules

Summer discounts in Greece will run until 31 August, and retailers may also stay open on Sunday 19 July between 11:00 and 18:00, though opening is not mandatory for all stores.

During the discount period, businesses must inform shoppers of the previous price, defined as the lowest price the product sold for in the last 30 days (or the last 10 days for newer items). While displaying a discount percentage is optional, any shown percentage must clearly represent an actual price reduction. If more than 60 % of a store’s items are on sale, the discount rate must be displayed in the shop window, and when multiple discount categories exist, the range must be indicated.

Consumers are urged to check final prices and beware of artificial price hikes before sales begin. Retailers must also disclose their return and exchange policies before purchase. Under Greek consumer law, buyers of defective products can request repair, replacement, or a refund.
