Greece: Family sues NGO ‘Paidiki Chara’ over alleged fraud

The family of a young girl, Maritina, has decided to take legal action against the NGO ‘Paidiki Chara’ (Childhood Joy) following allegations of fraud. The family, who had previously opened an Eran account to raise funds for the child’s needs, reported that the NGO filed a complaint against them, leading to the closure of the account. Subsequently, representatives from the organization approached the family, claiming they could help resolve the matter.

In a related development, the 37-year-old founder of the NGO and his 35-year-old former partner have been placed in pretrial detention. Out of six total defendants, two are being sent to prison while four others were released under restrictive conditions. During questioning, the founder reportedly attributed the mismanagement of funds to a gambling addiction, claiming he needed money for betting, though he denied allegations of living a luxurious lifestyle.
