Greece ferry passenger rights and compensation rules
Ferry passengers in Greece are entitled to specific compensation and refund rights in the event of significant delays caused by the transport company. If a departure is delayed by more than 90 minutes due to technical issues or damage attributable to the company, passengers may choose to cancel their ticket for a full refund or remain on board with light meals and refreshments provided at the company's expense.
For delays exceeding four hours that necessitate an overnight stay, companies are obligated to provide meals and accommodation, either on the ship or in a hotel, as well as covering transportation costs to and from the port. Accommodation costs are capped at 80 euros per night for up to three nights.
Upon reaching their destination, passengers are eligible for compensation ranging from 25% to 50% of the ticket price, depending on the duration of the trip and the length of the delay. If a passenger is not transported to their destination within 24 hours due to company responsibility, they are entitled to compensation equal to twice the fare in addition to a full refund.
