The daily Fire‑Risk Map issued by Greece’s General Secretariat for Civil Protection predicts a very high wildfire risk (category 4) for the entire island of Crete and for the North Aegean region (Lesbos, Chios, Samos and Ikaria) on Wednesday, 29 July 2026. During the fire‑season the authorities prohibit outdoor burning, use of fire for events, smoking in beehives, hot‑work operations, grills, fireworks and the movement of persons or vehicles in Natura 2000 zones.
