Two firefighters killed in Greece helicopter collision during wildfires FAST-MOVING

Two Bell firefighting helicopters collided in mid‑air over the Psatha area west of Athens while battling a wind‑driven wildfire. The crash killed a Danish pilot and a Greek fire‑service liaison; a British pilot and a Greek crew member survived with injuries. Strong winds of up to 100 km/h hampered aerial operations and forced the evacuation of 254 people from Agios Vasileios and 12 from Porto Germeno by sea. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis warned that the coming days would be “extremely difficult” because of the extreme weather. Over 6,500 ha have burned in separate fires on the Gulf of Corinth, and about 500 firefighters with 23 aircraft are deployed to contain the blaze. All Bell helicopters have been grounded pending investigation, and a 44‑year‑old man was arrested on suspicion of arson.
