Amorgos island records Greece's highest gasoline price as summer travel costs surge
During the summer of 2026 the Greek island of Amorgos posted the country's top price for regular unleaded gasoline, reaching €2.350 per litre at a station in Katapola. By comparison, the national average in late July was about €1.977 per litre, while the Cyclades region averaged €2.223 per litre.
Prices on other popular islands also topped €2.00. In Mykonos and Syros the price climbed to €2.279 per litre, and in the Dodecanese the average was €2.121 per litre. The Cyclades were reported with a slightly higher average of €2.234 per litre in several sources. These levels are well above the psychological €2‑per‑litre threshold that families consider for daily driving.
The steep fuel costs add a significant burden to holiday budgets, increasing the price of a 50‑litre tank by up to €18‑19 compared with the national average. Together with high ferry fares and accommodation prices, the rise in gasoline price is expected to compress disposable income for tourists and may influence travel choices within Greece.
