Greece: Heavy traffic reported on Athens-Corinth highway during holiday return
Travelers returning to Attica following the August 15 holiday are experiencing significant traffic congestion. Heavy volumes of vehicles are moving at low speeds on the Athens-Corinth National Highway, specifically on the stretch from Megara to Nea Peramos. Minor delays have also been reported at the Elefsina toll stations.
In contrast, traffic on the Athens-Lamia National Highway is proceeding without major issues. According to police data recorded between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, a total of 58,051 vehicles have returned to Attica, consisting of 36,200 vehicles from the Athens-Corinth route and 21,851 from the Athens-Lamia route.
Traffic authorities have implemented increased measures across the national road network to ensure safety and prevent accidents. A restriction remains in place until 23:00, prohibiting trucks with a maximum permissible weight exceeding 3.5 tons from entering the inbound lanes.
